Pi Day (And a Whole Lot More)

Day 191: Thursday, March 14, 2013

Port to Port: Stuart, Florida

Underway: 0:00 am      Motor Off: 0:00 pm      Miles Traveled: 0      Stayed At: Mooring

First Things First: First Downtown Crawl

Mile to Mile: Wine, crackers and cheese, pizza, BBQ sandwich, champagne, cream puffs, garlic knots, wine, fudge, more wine, cookies, crème sherry, more crackers and cheese, ice cream and beer. (Maybe not in that order). That’s how our day ended. And we still had to dinghy back to the boat in the dark. Yikes!

Our timing was perfect – Stuarts semi-annual Downtown Stroll was this evening. For $10 you got a map to all the participating retailers who would stamp your passport and offer snacks and beverages (usually alcohol related). If you got more than 12 stamped, you could enter your ticket into a drawing for a $500 downtown gift certificate. We visited every store and were stuffed and a little tipsy by the time we were done. What a blast. And tomorrow through the weekend they are having music and festivities (more beer?) to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. We are going to need more exercise.

We started our first full day in Stuart checking tasks off our To Do list – laundry, check: blog update, check: route planning, check. Today also was Girls Lunch Out at the marina so I convinced Cindy to head off with the other woman to lunch while I finished up the blog posting. She had a wonderful time, of course.

After lunch and projects we relaxed sitting at a table by the water, in the warm sunshine, chatting with new friends Joy and Howard on Sandals. They have sailed this area and farther south for years.

After our chat, we headed downtown to get our map and goody bags. After visiting probably 20 stores over the next several hours, we successfully returned to the boat, and, since it IS Pi Day, Cindy decided we needed to at least have one bite of a tiny pecan pie she bought just for this occasion. (Even though we already had pizza pie which I guess didn’t count). Happy Pi Day from Stuart Florida.

By the way, don’t forget to put Pi Day, 2015 on your calendar. Sarah can’t wait since it will be 3.1415 which, of course, is an even better Pi Day. Don’t forget.
